Paintings from Europe

I've taken photos while traveling that I used as my inspiration for these paintings. These sketches were part of the 30 in 30 days challenge in January 2015.

Day 9
Traveling can be tiring. My middle son, sketched below, was taking a break from sight-seeing while we were in Athens, Greece, near the Acropolis. He was 13 and it was a hot day. He was probably wishing he was home, in a pool, with friends:)

Day 8
A hot day in Mykonos, Greece. A boat that is used as part of an outdoor restaurant. About a dozen squid were tied to the lines. I might paint them in. About 8x10 in acrylic in a sketch book.

Day 7
The Louvre on an overcast day. It was "free day"-- good for our family of five, but quite crowded, but it was worth it to see some of the greatest art in the world. Acrylic in sketch book.

Day 6
Below, the Charles Bridge in Prague, Czech Republic, on a rainy day in August, 2013. I'm painting these sketches in acrylic in a sketchbook with heavy beige paper.

Day 4
Below, Hagia Sofia, which means Shrine of the Holy of God, is an ancient church-turned-mosque-turned museum in Istanbul.

Day 5
While in Istanbul, we bought Persian rugs at the Grand Bazaar.

Day 2
Study sketch of Mykonos court yard. The sky was so blue against the white Greek buildings on the very hot day shown here.

Day 1
A brief thunderstorm had just passed and the sun shone on San Marcos in Venice the day I took the photo I worked from for this study.

Day 3
Below, a Church in the Black Forest of Germany with lupine growing in the foreground. We had driven up into the mountains near Badenweiler where we were staying.
